2010: Year In Review

No new chapters posted (again), but I finally felt like I got to write.

Nothing majorly bad happened for a change. I just had to switch from Google's Blogger service to keep my content on my domain, which required that I create my own blogging system, and then my motherboard blew, but I didn't lose anything. That was it.

There were several months where writing days were a little sparse, especially when my motherboard blew and towards the end of the year, but a lot of months show I was writing actual story text, not just notes, for several days in a row for multiple weeks within most of those months. And the research I did was put to use as I wrote or led me to write, instead of just getting added to one of my note files.

I also used my blog on several occasions to work out problems I was having with a story or to talk about the work I was doing, which felt so much better than just talking about working on the site or whatever crisis was happening at the time.

This was the first year I felt like I was doing what I wanted to be doing with my writing, which was actually write. Nothing pulled me away or sent me into a complete panic (well, the motherboard thing wasn't great, but nobody died, I didn't end up on some drug that whacked me out, and I didn't end up deathly ill, so compared to all that, the motherboard thing wasn't that big a deal). I was able to focus on my stories and I didn't worry too much about getting the site done (I used it to take a break from writing now and then). Oh, and I'd finished the renovations (for the most part, anyway) the previous year, so that was another thing off my plate of distractions.

Moral of the Story

Good things come to those who work while they wait.

Throughout all the crap of the previous few years, I kept plugging away at my stories. Honestly, I'm not sure I could do anything else, but I think it was important that I never gave up. It got hard, but I kept going. I do wish my pace would pick up, but I remember thinking, way back when, that at the rate I was going on my stories, working on all of them a little at a time, I was probably going to end up finishing them all at the same time. It would just take that many times longer to get there. Well, if that's how it works out, that won't be so bad.
