So, we're still dealing with ongoing medical crap, but it's been getting better for the most part, so we've been trying to get back to some semblance of normal, which means I'm trying to work on some admin stuff for the website.
I also still haven't missed a day of writing (don't ask me how, sheer determination is all I know) and it's finally showing some results. I've finally completed Day 29 of ABP, though it still needs a final read-through and edits before I make it available to Members (you'll have to email me for it, since logging in is still not available).
Anyway, working on that had me looking over the previously posted Days, which led me to realizing I couldn't tell which Book I was looking at in the series on my Kindle because the covers were all the same (my bad, sorry about that).
So I've edited them to show the Book number and which Days the Book includes. I also fixed a couple typos here and there (I was using 'awhile' when it should've been 'a while' and of course I'm finding that in the rest of my stories, but I'll get to those later).
In the process, I ended up noticing that Scrivener was creating my new EPUBs with larger file sizes than before, so after some investigating, I came up with a fix that has actually made them smaller than they were before, so yay.
For my own future reference, the sequence is this:
Use the cover_placeholder.jpg image when using Scrivener to compile the EPUB file (if you don't create it with a cover image, Calibre won't load the file with the cover image for some reason, even if you add it later). You might also want to create a Save Preset, so you don't have to rewrite the metadata if you have to recreate the file at a later date (which is likely if I find more typos), though you'll still have to reselect which chapters and scenes to include.
Create the real cover image for the book and use TinyJPG.com to optimize it.
Drop the EPUB file into Calibre and choose Edit Metadata Individually. Update the book series and which number in the series it is. Browse for the optimized cover image and select it to change the cover. Close the window, then Save to Disk. Open the saved file to make sure the changes took and didn't mess anything up (cover image loads, links all work, etc.).
Doing it that way reduced the file sizes even below what they'd been before, since for some reason, Scrivener was taking a 90KB image and bloating it into over 200KB. And TinyJPG shaved the 90KB file down to about 60KB, so that was even better.
Anyway, the first 2 free books have been updated on the site, but if you're a Member, you'll need to email me for the rest of the updated books in the series.
And as soon as Day 29 is ready, I'll post an update here.
Oh, and if I don't get that finished in the next few days, Happy Halloween. :)
