The Letter

Hey baby,

You were right. It wasn't a lie. Even if everything goes wrong, it'll still be okay, as long as you're there with me, because we're the only two people who really need to be there for this. It's our words and actions that will bind us together, just as only our words and actions can break us apart.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that, because I love you very much, and I know you're probably nervous, just like I am, but it'll be okay. We'll get through this together. And then we'll eat and dance and relax and spend time with our family.

Well, the next time you see me, I'll be your Prince Charming. Just remember, I'm totally naked under all those clothes.

I love you,

Kodi

PS

I know this is way short in comparison to your letter, but not everyone can be an epic poet like you. I just do epic sex scenes.

PPS

Did I make you laugh yet? I just love you very much, and I want you to chill and relax and have sweet dreams tonight, and when you feel yourself starting to have a meltdown in the morning because something isn't happening the way you want it to, I want you to take three deep breaths and remind yourself that it's okay. And if you're still freaking out, take three more deep breaths and think of me telling you it's okay and we'll figure it out. And then turn to Amanda and ask for her help with whatever it is you need. She'll be there for you.

PPPS

And nothing that's important to you is stupid. Ask Amanda for help.

PPPPS

I love you.

My Reaction

Kodi's letter was hand-written in purple ink. I was very impressed because my poem was just typed. She began her letter by referencing what she said the night her wedding shirt was shrunk. The tears started streaming down my cheeks soon after I read that. But when I got to the line, "I'm naked under all those clothes," I was laughing and crying so hard and all at the same time, which really made it difficult to finish reading the rest of her letter.

The "I'm naked under all those clothes" line is a quote from one our favorite Deep Space Nine episodes, called "Profit and Lace," in which Quark is transformed into a female. On his home planet, women weren't allowed to wear clothes. But Kodi and I just loved the line. We use it to describe Kodi's normal state of being at home, which is naked.

I'm sure Kodi put that reference in her letter to get me to laugh and relax a bit, which it did have that desired effect on me, but it also made me love and miss her even more.
