By the light of a full moon

We want to be alone
So we go outside onto the porch
Leaving everyone else behind
It's too nice of a night to spend it
Cooped up inside the beach house
So we sit down in the rockers
The night sky is bright with the full moon
And a wide swath of light cuts a path
Across the black of the ocean
Slivers of light glitter on the rolling surface
Occasionally obscured by the crests of dark waves
We watch in silence for a while
Just enjoying the moment
Listening to the waves crash on the beach
And the buzzing of the Cicadas
Which is so loud it could
Almost drown out the waves
And then there is the warmth of the breeze
That gently blows across the porch
I ask if you'd like
To go for a walk on the beach
We stand and start to walk
Down the wooden pier
Towards the water
We don't get very far
When you take my hand and tug
Stopping me in my tracks
You want to do something else instead
You lean back against the railing
And pull me into you a little
I smile at the sight of your face
Half-lit by moonlight, the other in shadow
I wonder if you have any idea
Just how beautiful you are at this moment
I'm about to tell you, but before I can
You pull me closer, whispering
"This is what I want"
Then you lean in
Until our lips touch
And we're kissing
By the light of a full moon

Author's Notes

As Kodi and I sat in rocking chairs on the porch, she made the comment about how one would describe the scene before us. This poem was my attempt to capture the essence of that night.
