Third Time’s The Charm

I was watching TV
And saw this car commercial
The driver was a woman
Who said, your relationship
With your car is like
Any other relationship

Some burn really hot
But don't last very long
While others may last longer
But don't produce much heat
And then there are others
That smolder beautifully
For a long, long time

That got me thinking
I've had one of each
Of those types of relationships
Although it wasn't with
Any of the cars I've ever owned
They were all with women instead

My love affair with Lust Woman
Was the one that burned
White-hot but vanished quickly
My obession with her
Only lasted for a couple years
But while I was in the midst of it
I was completely consumed by it

Then my relationship with Wolfmoon
Lasted a long time, twenty years
We went from friends to lovers
Then to a married couple
To finally a divorced one
But even though we were
Together for a long time
The fire that we had
In the beginning couldn't
Withstand the test of time

The third type of relationship
The one that smolders
For a long, long time
It's what I've always wanted
And it's what I hope
I've finally found with you

We've been together for nine years
So we've passed the seven-year mark
Which I've heard is the point
When lesbian bed death occurs
But I still want you just as much now
As I did when we first met

So, here's to our future, baby
And to our love and desire
May it smolder quite nicely
For many, many years to come

Author's Notes

I find inspiration in the oddest places sometimes, even during a Cadillac commercial.
