I'm on my way home from work
And get stopped at a long red light
I glance up into my rearview mirror
To the car directly behind me
In it sits two women
Who appear to be in their mid-sixties
The driver has white shoulder length hair
While her passenger has short red hair
They're so involved in their conversation
That they don't notice I'm watching them
They're too busy talking
And looking at each other
So I continue to watch
I wonder if they're lovers
Then the driver reaches over and touches
The passenger lightly on the arm
And I find myself wishing intently
That the driver would have
Leaned over and kissed her instead
What a thrill it would have been to see
Them kiss the hell out of each other
But to my dismay, they didn't
They just continue talking
Totally unaware of my eyes on them
Or my wish for them...
The light changes to green
Traffic begins to move again
My focus shifts from behind me
To the road ahead
I think about you, my love
And I smile to myself
As I make a wish for us
For someday when
We reach a ripe old age
May we be the ones to kiss
The hell out of each other
And put a smile on the face
And hope in the heart
Of the next generation
Of lesbian newlyweds
