I spent the day

This morning at work
The computers went down
And they were down all day
So, with nothing else to keep me busy
I spent the day loving you
First I read the copy of our ceremony
That you'd emailed me
Then I read my wedding letter to you
Out loud like you suggested
I cried at the very same place
As I did when I read it to you last month
So, I'm guessing it'll probably be
At the same point when I start crying
On our wedding day as well
Which is really okay with me
Because it means those lines are perfect
And they deeply affect me
Then I wondered if I should
Rewrite one of the paragraphs
That I'm not real happy with yet
Then I remembered I had
A copy of the MS Word document
You made of all our first emails
I decided to open that file
Thinking it might help me
To rewrite that paragraph
So I started reading
Then you called around noon
We talked more about the ceremony
And you read what you'd written for the elements
After we got off the phone
I fixed my lunch and went back
To reading our early emails
I definitely found some things
I want to add to my letter
And I even found a description
Of a kiss I'd written for you
It was very interesting
I'm thinking I might kiss you that way
When I finally hear the words
"You may now kiss your wife"
I also called and finally talked
To the person that is making my bodice
I was so excited to finally
Get the order confirmed and placed
Now, I can't wait to see it
They'll start working on it next week
So, I should have it by early July
Maybe it'll even get here
While Amanda is visiting
That would be so cool

I'll bet most employees
Might have considered today
To have been a total waste, but not me
I thought it was very worthwhile

For I spent the day...

Amazed at how fast we fell in love
Happy in the realization of just how much it's grown

Author's Notes

While I'm sure most of my co-workers weren't too thrilled that they weren't able to get any work done today, I, on the other hand, was more than happy to take advantage of the down time and use it for more personal pursuits.

I love days like these. While it's true things do get behind and that fact alone might add stress to some workloads, for me, it was a stress reliever. It gave me a legitimate excuse to take a much-needed mental break. And what with the wedding only two months away, I'll take all the breaks I can get.

I wrote this poem when I got home from work. Spending the day reading all those early emails that Kodi and I sent was the inspiration. I really loved how much we wrote to each other back then. Before we started talking on the phone, we wrote about everything. No matter what was going on in the other person's life, we shared it all. I think I miss sharing that form of communication with Kodi. Don't get me wrong, normally when I get home from work, we talk about what our day was like while we were apart, and I love that. But I miss writing it all down in words like we used to. Since it was so late when Kodi went to bed today, she was sound asleep when I got home. So, I found myself having to fill some alone time, which like the day, I decided to spend in thoughts of Kodi and loving her with my words, like I did once upon a time.
