My Girl

I love the sound of that
the images that it creates
you and me, together
I find myself lost again
in thoughts of you

you, you, you...
sometimes I wonder
are you all I think about
no, but you are the most important
thing that I think about

my thoughts this time
you may be wondering
us at the end of the month
going to the outer banks
seeing you in trunks
and a sports bra
ummm, wondering if
we need to go shopping
then that image of
your computer's wallpaper
comes to mind, the white sand
the crystal clear water
then I hear the words
the words that you spoke
just the other night
wondering if it was a nude beach
I see us naked walking
hand in hand along the shoreline
running and playing
rolling around on the sand
running out in the water
just to cool off...
but honestly, as long
as I'm with you
I'll be happy anywhere
anywhere with my girl

Author's Notes

Kodi and I had spent the evening together in her office, both working at our own computer. She was working on one of her stories. While I was editing the poem entitled "You're Not Her." It was quite late and I had just shut down the computer, about to say good night and go to bed. But I just couldn't seem to make myself get up out of the chair, because of the images that kept running around in my mind. So I thought the hell with it and turned the computer back on. Kodi looked over at me and said, "I thought you were going to bed?" I replied, "Yeah, I thought so too. But these words just won't leave me alone." This is what I wrote so that I could get some sleep.
