Your Mark

You've left your mark on me

Like a handprint in the dust
On my paneled wall
Or like an ancient petroglyph
Preserved in time

You've left your mark on me

Your handprints on my skin
Your teeth marks on my neck and shoulders
Your words penetrate my heart
Your love claims me, body and soul

You've left your mark behind

For my eyes and
Those of the world
To notice and to understand
Just how much you love me

Author's Notes

We were spending a lazy Sunday afternoon in bed. Kodi was writing in her journal and I was lying there with my feet propped up on the headboard of the bed. And from that angle I could see a hand print in the dust on the wall. The image just struck me.
