Thoughts of You

My left hand covers my eyes
I sit here in silence, in darkness
In thoughts of you
In the images that you
Have caused my mind to create
And I wonder if you know
If you even have a clue
Of just what your words do to me

Now what is this
This intrusion into my solitude
How dare you disturb me
With your noise, with your cough
Please hurry up and leave
This may be a public facility
But I came here to be alone
Alone with my thoughts of you

Author's Notes

The Chinese may call 2000 the year of the Dragon, but for me it was the year of the Wolf. Kodi Wolf that is. I e-mailed Kodi on March 13th, in response to one of her stories, "Xena: Warrior Slave." We corresponded back and forth for almost two months. I kept flirting with her and then on April 29th, she finally called my bluff, asking if I was really serious or just playin'. I wrote her back and told her that I was seriously playing. She wrote back saying she was interested and sent me her phone number. And it was on; she was all I could think about. I wrote this poem for her two days later.

I had read her story "A Bondage Primer" at work and had gone to the restroom to take care of a little problem that the story had created. But once I was there, all I could do was think about her. I wondered about the color of her hair, or how long it was, or what color her eyes were. I was sitting there with my hand covering my eyes, when the image of us standing there in the stall popped into my head. I was pressing her back into the tiled wall and kissing her deeply. Then someone came in, disturbing my solitude. I came back to my office, sat down at my computer, and typed this out in an e-mail to Kodi. I debated for several long minutes on actually sending it, but finally I just hit the send button. Her response? Well, she didn't quite know what to say at first. She was busy feeling the butterflies in her stomach. Then she wrote, "How do you make a bard speechless - send her poetry."
