So what did you expect?

Did you think she'd be lost without you
Did you think she'd realize
How much she loves you

Just where you'd been
You were even happy
That she understood
What you had felt
You wanted her to know
And now she does

So what did you expect?

To get out scot free
And not know the
Other side of that coin
Now you also know
Where she had been

So what did you expect?

Not to understand what
She must have felt
The fear of losing
The uncertainty of your future
And the pain of watching her
With a broken heart

Author's Notes

This is probably the only poem I've written to myself. It was written after I returned home from a trip out to California. I had gone to see Georgia, who about four months earlier, had broken up with her lover, Aloha. Plus, I needed some time away. While I was there, I really hoped things would be different when I got back home, but they weren't. I was basically taking a long hard look at my expectations.
