Shelter

Let me be your shelter
From the rain
I offer myself to you
It is all I have to give
But I'll give you my all
I offer my hands
To hold you tight
I offer my arms
To catch you if you fall
I offer my breasts
To comfort your need
I offer tender kisses
For your brow
I offer my heart
For compassion
And understanding
I offer my tears
To share your pain
I offer my legs
To stand by you
I offer my feet
To run to you
I offer my back
To help you carry your load
I offer the warmth of my body
As a harbor from the storm
I offer my love
As a sanctuary
Today
Tomorrow
And always

Author's Notes

At the time this was written, the one-year anniversary of my mother-in-law's death was soon approaching. I wrote the poem to let Wolfmoon know that I wanted to be there for her. But to be completely honest, I was trying to convince myself that I was still taking my wedding vows seriously. In reality, nothing was farther from the truth.
