I Wish

I wish I could touch your heart
Like my words do

I wish I could caress you
Like my words do

I wish my body could touch you
Like my words do

I wish I could arouse you
Like my words do

I wish I could stay with you
Like my words do

I wish I could captivate you
Like my words do

I wish my fingers could penetrate you
Like my words do

I wish I could feel your eyes caress me
Like my words do

I wish I could feel your hands upon me
Like my words do

I wish I could make love to you
Like my words do

Author's Notes

My wife, Kodi calls this poem "The Bard's Lament." She said, "I think most writers wish that what they write could become real, could somehow become a part of their reality, that's why they write..."

When I wrote it, I was wishing for what I couldn't have; the woman from the Lust poem. We had a 9-month affair until she decided to go with her first intention and stopped seeing me so that she wouldn't feel responsible for breaking up my marriage. So all I could give her were my words, or rather that was all she would take. I knew my words affected her, but I still wanted more.
