The night sky

I feel the night
Cool against my skin
Gazing up to find
The moon through the trees
Ah, there it is
Almost full
By the time it is
We'll be home
Alone for another
Full moon
And there's another
Plane landing
A constant reminder
That the time will
Come for another
Good-bye
Tears roll, warm
Down my cheeks
The night sky
Is different here
It glows gold
From the city lights
We've hardly been
Here two weeks
In a way, not long enough
Much too long in another

Author's Notes

In the spring of 1990, Georgia and Aloha moved to California. Aloha's father had died, and she felt the need to be closer to her mother. Wolfmoon and I had flown out there to see them in September. This poem was written one night near the end of our trip, when I had walked out into their backyard alone. I was lamenting the fact that I was missing them already, and all too soon we'd have to say goodbye.
