I Can't

I can't always say
I love you
But you always
Know I do

I can't always
Hold you
But you always
Know I want to

I can't always
Kiss you
But you always
Know I want to

I can't always
Dance with you
But you always
Know I want to

For what I can't do
I am sorry
Public opinion keeps
Us in chains

Bound by how much
We can give
But it's the way we've
Chosen to live

And that's the price
We must pay
Living in a straight world
And being gay

Author's Notes

At the time that I wrote this, I hadn't totally accepted being gay. Wolfmoon (she chose this name during the same tribal ritual that I adopted the name Roarin' Fire) and I were out with some straight friends at a restaurant and it was hard. I felt like there was all this stuff I wanted to do, but couldn't. And I was basically apologizing for my fears and blaming it on society, instead of taking responsibility for my decisions and actions. Luckily, I got over it. :)
